Quiet Panache is a blog platform dedicated to sharing my personal life stories, reflections, and lessons from a lifetime of old and new experiences, beginning in 1960 to the present. Each post is accompanied by the my own illustrations, paintings and photographs, because really, who said picture books are just for kids?! Serving as somewhat of a memoir of an ordinary woman, artist and writer, a nobody, a somebody, and yet anybody really, this site aims to share love and compassion for self and others, and also inspire hope and enjoyment among its readers.

The Coffee House Lure

Are eclectic, cozy coffee houses your haven? I spent many a morning, bathed in sunshine and the smell of good French roast and flowers, writing in my journal and sketching. I gravitated to the local, non-franchise coffee brew house. Coffee Houses like these were hubs in the community for people to gather every week in a comfortable, lived-in setting. It was a great way to connect with locals who were also writers and artists, and students of every walk of life. The Java Station was an old converted gas station, replete with mismatched living room furniture, books, board games and often featuring local artwork on the walls. It was where I had my first solo show of 20 pieces. Imagine how this exiting oil painting, with its lively colors, will reflect your own love of the local coffee house vibe and conversations with friends over a good cup of joe!

One by one, these charming brew houses are being replaced by the large franchises, sadly. If you wax nostalgically about your old favorite local coffee spot, this painting will serve as an aromatic reminder!

One of the most common mistakes in placing art is going too small. A single work hung at the center of a large wall often feels lost, and the temptation is to add more.

But... adding more is rarely the answer.

Before buying, measure the wall space you are working with and aim for a work that occupies between two-thirds and three-quarters of the width. The right scale makes everything in the room feel more deliberate and helps the artwork shine.

Spring is the season when people actually follow through on the room changes they have been thinking about all winter. If you have been considering adding "La Boheme" to your space but want something more durable and substantial than paper, canvas is worth looking at seriously.
